QUAERITUR: Why is Gregorian chant better than “Gather Us In?” | Fr. Z's Blog – What Does The Prayer Really Say? [del.icio.us]

No punches pulled here, his straight-laced opinion and reference to the facts behind them.  You can disagree but this is a great place to start the discussion.

Why should you write in cursive, why should your children learn to write in cursive?   Maybe I should start doing my journal in it more.

I’ll bet you thought Jesus died for our sins. HAH! NCR has a new angle. | Fr. Z's Blog – What Does The Prayer Really Say? [del.icio.us]

I just dislike the way some people rewrite theology to be kinder and gentler.  We wonder why some are uneducated about the faith and leave the Church.  It's hard to call the stuff Fr. Z comments on in this post "Catholic".

Wading Across the Tiber « A Comforting & Disturbing Grace [del.icio.us]

Posted: 01 Apr 2011 08:39 AM PDT

A most interesting little blog I stumbled across.  Going to have to read this one a bit more.  This particular post is his outing himself that he is coming home to Rome.  It is amazing how far and wide C.S. Lewis influence has grown in bringing people home to Rome.  His quotation of Dr. Kreeft (A spiritual child/grandchild of Lewis depending on the messiness of Spiritual genealogy) shows the clear connection back the man that stands holding the door open.

Swing wide and open the doors.   One salient quote from the comments was that more people will come home when "Catholics start being Catholic."   A reminder that we can't offer to converts what we don't have.

Why we need lent, an excellent read from a modern day man that has a mastery of language and knowledge.   Lent isn't about dieting or eating good seafood, it is about santification.

Atheist Convert: Jeff Miller [del.icio.us]

The reason for the season of lent.   A time of calling to conversion for all of us.  We are strengthened for these 40 days so that we can prepare for temptation by learning to deal with it through self-sacrifice and denial of passions that are sanctified to give glory to God.  This is the story of the Curt Jester, a famous Catholic blogger and former atheist.

The Pope of Christian unity is doing much work.  Welcome home.   I imagine that Sts. Thomas More, Edmund Campion and Blessed John Henry Newman have played a hand in this.
This lent is special for them as these people and many others come home to the Universal Church.  For those of us already in the Church we must remember that this is a time of deepening our own personal conversion through prayer and fasting.
